Exploratory Chameleon?

So I just recently got a male and female 1 year old chameleon and they've been set up for about 3 days now, but they are opposites. They are both in the same cages they grew up in with the breeder (2'x2'x4' each), but the male is really moving everywhere. He sits up at the top of his ficus a lot, but often he will climb all the way down to the ground and climb up the screen all the way to the top again. I've seen him do this 3 times now, and twice he's fallen. The female has been chilling in the middle back of her cage with a little exploration for the past 3 days. Any reasons y the males been roaming so much?

I am also intrigued by the answer to this question because my older male (5 month) is doing the same thing as your male is doing

He's once again at the bottom, trying to get up the screen. He just gave up and is going right back up the tree. He's so weird. I figured it was either cause he was dehydrated or very bored. He's not wrinkly though, and he has a humidifier that heavily fogs straight down the tree for an hour every 5 hours.

Can your male see the female?

Hey Jan mine is doing the exact same behavior.. I don't even have a female... AND he's less than half the age of the other members cham... So what based on that could be causing this?

He might need more plants, vines and branches in his cage. He might need a bigger cage or he might just want to free range. :D

No, there is a towel between the cages. As I post this he is in the pot again, but this time I caught him with his cheeks slightly bulging and inverting. It looked like he was either drinking or eating something, but there is just dirt in the pot. He saw me, turned around, and is back up the tree. The breeder fed both 5 superworms every 3 days, but I started feeding them every 2 days. Today was their day off. Is he looking for food? I dunno.

Well the free range part makes sense... He's already attempted a death defying escape once... And free ranged today for about 2 hours before trying to escape AGAIN inside the house this time... I have two big plants and about 18' of vines in his cage (The foliage is a wee bit thin as I have had to trim back the EXPLOSIVE hibiscus because of growth and aphids which seem to be un-killable)

But thanks for your reply I'll see if I can let him free roam a bit more (WITHOUT ESCAPES!!)

I hope mine doesn't want more coverage haha. I've just spent about $100 bucks for my gargoyle gecko's new cage, and I don't really want to buy Costello (the male screen climber) $50 of fake branches :p

I would recommend covering the soil with very large river rocks and feeding them both a variety of feeders.

I get most of my branches from outside for free.

YUP! Just make sure to do one the cleaning methods... I do this process.... Scrub with warm water and antibacterial hand soap... Air dry... And then bake at about 400 degrees for 20 minutes :) Kills any and all no gooders

Basilisk I mean.. Im sure Jan knows all that hehe

Thx for the tips. Well its the fact he has a ton of branches, but very little leaf cover. The ficus is kinda thin, so there isn't much for him to hide in.

Ya, I was actually thinking about getting an umbrella for Abby (female). I called the breeder and he thought it was seeing the female too. I actually noticed in the back there was a little bit pulled back, so he probably did see her there. I fixed it, and he mentioned if hes really active I should let him out for a bit until he slows down just so he doesn't go crazy lol.

Keep a close eye on him when he's out. Keep him safe and don't allow him to escape.

Escape= scariest few moments of your life... honestly Basilisk I can say since our chams seem similar minded... Watch him constantly when he's out or he will take that 3 second window I swear it..

haha thx. Trust me, I've almost lost worse reptiles (and arachnids 0.0). My least favorite, and most common, is losing lone superworms in your bedroom and them becoming darkling beetles. Hope you figure out your little criminal's escape attempts Sean!

ya. Not fun lol. The superworms are seriously the worst though. Darkling beetles are no fun to have in your room, not to mention they smell to high hell.
