Exo Terra Monsoon

Yesterday I picked up a monsoon , all I can say is I love this thing, Im feeding 2 setups with it right now, 1 nozzle in each, and ordered another nozzle for a 3rd setup, the system can run 6 nozzles. I have it set to run in cycle mode, 1 min every hour. I also bought a zerowater pitcher filter to purify my own water. You can get the monsoon for like $82 from amazon,. I really like it alot ! And my chams seem to love it, As I see them right under it when it is on soaking up the water.

I would just suggest being very careful about not letting it run dry, and not over working it. I think 1 minute every hour is about all these things can take. I've went through three, first time it went dry and died, the second time I think I ran it too long on a continuous cycle (giving some fresh import uroplatus a shower), and the I think I killed the third because I accidentally filled it up with hot water which over heated the motor.

Other wise they are a neat little machine, good luck with it!

It will be interesting to see how long it lasts, I actually increased the time to 2 mins every hour, I will keep an eye on it.

I have been running this unit for a few days now, and ran it dry once during the night. No problems what so ever. Will continue to monitor its performance. So far so good.

I am running 6 of these things in different parts of my facility. I've had 3 of them for about a year now and only had a problem with one of them and exoterra sent me a new unit within a week with a pre-paid label to send the old one back.

You are lucky!:D

yeah they usually leak out of the resevoir, modifiy with a small bowl and make a rain dome because the mist is not really a mist but more like a spray bottle.

Im running 3 nozzles off of mine no problems what so ever. I think people give this unit a bad rap for what ever reason, I don't believe 1/2 the "stories" and if it breaks there is a warranty. I know a lot of local guys using this system and it works fine. For less than $100 , ease of setup (you can have this thing up and running in less than 5 mins ) , can't beat it. One thing worth noting I filter my water that i run through it.

/shrug I guess i am that half of ppl who had bad luck with it. I had one for about 4 hours... it leaked out of the reservoir and the misting head was a joke compared to a mist king, reminded me of a windex bottle spray.

Glad its working for you though, 20-30 more $$ and you can have a mist king and not be limited to the small reservoir and integrated setup.

When/If it breaks I am going to get a mist king. I hear great things about them quality stuff.

I lay the nozzle on top of the screen which creates a localized rain fall that covers about 25% of my 2x2x4 cage.

I'm glad you have got a good one. I went through 3 in as many months. Would only spray every 2 hrs and in uk I find that too much as I don't have a screen viv. However I have kept last one as a spare in case mistking goes wrong and its better than nothing. If I do have to fall back on monsoon I've heard that you can bypass timer.

My monsoon has recently crapped out. I had some hot weather and the condensation went into the the top part of the monsoon where the pump and electronics are kept. Due to a poor design there is a seem where the top rests on the tank, which allows condensation into the electronics on hot days. Anyway I took it apart to find the electronics soaked in water. Even though I dried it out the timer still wont work right and it randomly goes off for as long as it wants. Such a well designed awesome product.

Almost as awesome as this.

Which I must say is pretty awesome.

Glad I read this about the dry run problem. I've had mine for a few months now, and it's been working fine. One of the nozzles that it came with sucked bad, but I had a replacement it came with that fixed the problem. I'm not sure how big your Brita is, but mines pretty small; gallon at most maybe. I've always used distilled, but maybe the cold water could help this over heating problem, as long is it stays cold... I think it fits about 2.5 gallons when I fill it up, and sraying 45 sec every 3 hrs it seems to last about a week or so. The automatic settings do make it pretty easy. However, my cage is larger than the two sprayers can reach, so I often find my self still hand misting half the cage. Old habits die hard, and why not a few extra minutes of TLC?
