Excited & Nervous & Needing Mentorship!

Well, I just joined this board last week with the plans of setting up a terrarium and getting everything together to get my first chameleon early next year... But, as the world turned, things have happened in such a way that I am getting a drop-dead gorgeous amazing setup from Chameleonpatrick with a handsome little Triocerous Perreti Chameleon (AKA "Peacock Chameleon" AKA "Trioceros wiedersheimi"). I have made arrangements with Patrick to get the setup on Wednesday evening...

Here's the link to the setup: http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/for/4162082098.html

I am FREAKING out! I am excited but very nervous... I feel like I haven't been researching long enough but Patrick was on a very strict time schedule due to moving to China and this is helping him and the little guys out a lot. I am going to need your help and advice as much as I can to get him all settled in, and help his new owner meet his needs.

I have tried googling and have read Patrick's posts. Are there any good articles out there about this particular species? Which is the most similar species to read about that is most common? I am also trying to collect a list of questions for Patrick when I meet him on Wednesday...

Am I crazy for taking this on? Thank you in advance for your help!

I am soooooo jealous. I have looked at it a thousand times and have talked myself out of it just as many. I have spent so much on my two guys already. You are getting such an amazing setup and I know a well cared of cham.

Congrats!!!!

Thank God you saved me!! Patrick and I had been discussing me driving out from Montana to get that set up. You are one VERY lucky person.

I would love to help you all I can. I will send you a pm with my info, and Patrick can give you any info about me that you need.

You are indeed crazy for taking this on and I am thinking it may be one of the very best crazy things you have ever jumped into.

First you are getting a completely set up terrarium. You have nothing else to buy - and I mean nothing. Either record or take excellent notes on how you need to care for the cham and the terrarium. Lots of us can try to help you, but you will never get better directions that Patrick.

For now go to this like on the forum and start reading, and reading and reading - you get the idea.It will not cover your cham individually but it will give you tons of knowledge to base your learning on.

I will see what I can locate for information.

Can you private message me your email? I do have some useful info for you.

What an incredible opportunity! If you have to dive off the ledge it sounds like you are getting some great support- keep us posted! :)

Congrats and welcome to the forums. I saw that beautiful animal in the classifieds here on the forums. There's not many members here with experience with that species. I'm sure Patrick will give you allot of pointers and tips. There's an experienced members list here on the forums and I'd recommend checking it out to see just who has experience and give them a PM. I do believe Chris Anderson has kept them in the past. The very best of luck.

Thank you all! I'm thinking on names right now.... Not sure if he has a name already but I'm sure he wouldn't mind another ;-)

I just received my copy of the chameleon handbook and had already read another 2 books. Is there a more common species that has similar needs? A carpet chameleon maybe? I know Patrick used to breed those too.

We have the two spots in our home we could keep him: in the closet of my office (with the doors taken off) or in the living room next to the TV in the built in. But I measured the built in and it's 40" square and 24" deep- would that even fit the tank (36 x 18 x 36) with the hood and the monsoon? I know you guys said no to a high traffic area- is that just for babies or adults too? I could cover the tank with a blanket to make it dark if it was in the living room, not too much issue in the closet. It just feels weird to keep a chameleon in a closet but where would he be happier?

Here are some photos of the potential spots. Please ignore the clutter- that will be cleaned up before the setup comes. ;-)

It's being glitchy and will only let me upload one at a time. Here's the built in in the living room

Here's a zoom in of the built in... As you can see there is a great little outlet right back there. And it's made to display something...
