Hi so generally it's recommended a 2x2x4, what's the feeling if the depth was only 18 inches but the length was 3ft and the height 5 ft ,

For a male or a female? I would not put a large male panther or veiled in one that has a depth of 18 inches just because sometimes that can be their total length or more. If it was a smaller adult male then the 3ft wide and 5 ft high I would be ok with even though the depth is only 18.

Thanks @Beman yeah male baby panther, thats what i thought but just thought id ask
If the little man outgrows it you will be able to tell. Wide platform cages allow them much more usable space. Its not like putting them into an 18x18 square which is much too small for them. I would give it a go and see how he does when he matures. :)

Yeah will just get a deeper one , as it will be custom built so not cheap and would lose too much reselling in a short space of time . Thank you

@Beman Will do might be a couple of months. Anyway without starting another thread What questions should I ask the breeder ?
I would just ensure they are supplementing correctly and that the lighting is on point. Also ask if they run fecals on the babies before you get them to ensure they are parasite free. Last thing you want is to bring one in with parasites when you have other chams.

Yeah thanks I've asked about supplements, forgot about fecal will do that . The thing with light is 12% is what is recommended in / on uk groups. Does it really matter if its a6 or 12 % as long as the uv at basking is correct. Just thought I would add the pictures from the breeder this morning

You can use either... But the basking should be a 3 UVI level exposure. It is all about how far away the fixture is from the basking branch. The issue with the 12% is people tend to put them far too close to basking. A 12% in a single bulb T5HO fixture sitting on top of standard aluminum window screen needs 11-12 inches to the branch to have a 3 UVI exposure. While a 6% in a single bulb T5HO fixture sitting on top of standard aluminum window screen needs 8-9 inches to the branch to have the same 3 UVI exposure.

Most UK and a few others insist on a 10.0 or 12% and put them too close. The issue is they do not get exposed to these levels even in the wild. Recommended exposure range would be a 3-6max for a Panther. I have not seen any real studies on what over exposure does but I know if I go out in the sun day after day in a high UVI I am going to have repeated burning and later on skin cancer possibilities. So logic tells me that if high UVI is not good for me then the high uvi a cham would get under our artificial bulbs that produce levels that are not even natural on earth the same idea applies as not a good idea.

They have a clean set up and their male looks very healthy. Looks as though they have a much higher UVI at basking with how close it is to the bulb. But like I said not much I have found on this only my common sense telling me it is not natural in the wild then we should not provide it in captivity.
