Emergency? Female laying eggs on leaves!

My new female Carpet, (about 1 yr old) who's color changed, but not to the extreme coloring of a typical gravid Carpet.

She seemed plump to me, and had a strange coloring, so I put her into a laying bin the other night. She didn't seem interested and just wanted to crawl out, so I put her back into her cage, after several hours.

Last night, I noticed her coloring returned to normal. This morning, I saw there were about 4-5 eggs that had clearly been dropped onto the leaves around her cage.

I have never had a gravid female before, so I haven't a clue as to what to do for her. Should I put her back into the laying bin? Is she finished? Is she in danger of egg binding?

Any help is appreciated.

You can take her out of her cage, and gently with your thumb & index finger feel her belly just in front of her back legs! You want to feel what feels like little jelly beans in her belly if you do or don't feel eggs I'd put her back in the cage with the laying bin! Gl

Blang, Thank you so much for responding. For how long should I leave her in there?

I had a female carpet, they are the prettiest female chams in the world IMHO.
She would never use her laying bin but would rather just drop them from her branches, I never had any issues with her health over it, but I'm not saying it's not possible. I've talked to others with Carpet owners before and stated similar issues. (She was WC)

I would put her in by the bin & feed and water her & let her eat & drink as much as she wants, don't forget to dust bugs with calcium! Egg laying takes a lot out of them! Then just watch her a couple more days to see if she's done laying eggs but don't be looking all the time!

Wow! How bizarre! I've never heard of this before. Mine was CB, so I guess that's not the issue. I wonder if they do this in the wild?

I just felt bad that I didn't recognize her coloring as being gravid. I studied photos online and she did not exhibit those colors. However, my instinct told me she WAS, so I should have trusted that I guess. :(

She laid a new egg today, but how do I know when she's finished?

I would just keep a close eye on her & see if she lays anymore eggs! Keep her fed & watered good so she doesn't get dehydrated! Does she still look like she's carrying anymore eggs?

It's just hard to tell. I have no experience with females being gravid. All my females were babies that I sold before they were big enough to be gravid.

Since laying that single egg in the laying bucket, her coloring seems back to normal, but it's tough to say. I'll keep her in there another couple of hours. She keeps trying to climb back out.
