My first clutch of eggs hatched, but I have a bit of bad news....one of the babies is deformed, anybody have experience with one-eyed neonates? I will post pictures later. They are Rh.spectrum.

Danny I am so sorry that happened. I have known of a veiled born with only one eye. he learned to hunt and eat just like the rest of the clutch. Are all the others ok?

Well its only a clutch of two, she has other eggs incubated but she layed two at a time. They look like they have hatchling edema...I guess since the mother was a bit beat up they arent the healthiest babies...

Which leads me to another question: does hatchling edema just go away or what?

Absolutely not...these are CH babies. The parents are wild.

i figured not, but still thought i would ask. it obviously happens sometimes, im very sorry to hear about the lil one eyed guy. i realy do hope he makes it and does well, he will be in my thoughts and prayers, keep us posted. on the bright side, you can give him a super sweet pirate name :)

I figured you were just ruling it out. :)

i dont know much about the growth inside the egg, but perhaps it was just missing something, or a defficiency of something in that particular egg that just never developed the other eye:confused::confused:

Kent has something with the incubation temperatures, their mustve been some kind of inconsistency. I just find it ironic that even though I checked the temps daily, somehow something happened.

So sorry to hear about the little one. Hopefully he'll be ok. You know Lizbeth has the one eye panther and he does great.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully he'll be just fine! :(
With these kind of things it's usually either an incubation/temperature issue, or just plain ol' genetic flaw. The eyes form nearly as one of the first things, right after the embryo goes from a ball of cells to something that starts taking on a vague shape. We're talking days here, not weeks. So if there was a temp thing, it was super early on.
