Egg laying substrate

I have a female veiled that should be laying anytime now. I believe she was impregnated around 3 weeks ago and she is HUGE. Right now i'm using a 50/50 mixtures of vermiculite and pete moss. She hasn't even dug into the substrate yet... is there something else that i should be using? It's starting to worry me a bit...

Vermiculite is for incubating eggs, not laying. It is very dangerous if eaten. It is one of the reasons that you don't just put plants that you just purchased in a cage without repotting them.

sand

Ok, i've switched to playground sand that i rinsed out.... Hopefully she'll take to it very soon. She seems a little uncomfortable with all of those eggs in her!
