If you poke holes in the top parts of the eggcrate, the crickets can crawl through it if crickets start to pile up on top of each other. This way the guy on the bottom doesnt get eaten and can get out from under the rest. Crickets seem to like egg crate a lot more than toilet paper or paper towel rolls.
