Egg Bound Veiled

Hey guys!,

Not new here however I often do not post in here, my veiled has been laying eggs for the first time since July 25th, we found 7 on that day. Since reading on here I have still been giving her about 5 crickets every other day just in case she wants to eat and putting liquid calcium in her water. She has redirected her laying hole and will sometimes go in there to check it out, this morning August 5th I woke up to spray the cage and found her in the hole head out with sunken eyes now I also know not to bother the chams when laying however I feel terrible about how exhausted she is. I sprayed her to help hydrate her, still not doing anything, any other suggestions?! I feel so bad right now.

It sounds like your girl needs a vet ASAP. When they are trying to lay eggs they need complete privacy. If they see you they can abandon their hole and become egg bound.

From my egg laying blog:
If your female didn't lay the eggs you can try leaving her in the laying bin for longer but I would take her to a good chameleon vet at the first sign of a problem. Many of the females die from egg problems and live a shorter life than the males. If you get her to the vet in time a vet can give oxytocin to induce egg laying before she becomes egg bound. Several injections of oxytocin over several days might be needed. If she still doesn’t lay the eggs surgery is the only other alternative. Surgery is very risky but at this point it’s the only choice. If your female is healthy and your husbandry is right she shouldn't become egg-bound unless she has a reproductive system deformity, deformed eggs, etc.
