Eating ??

I have a 6 1/2 month old Ambi. whose eating has slowed way down. He is about 13-15 inches long and looks good and cruises his new cage quite a bit. His droppings look hydrated only they are half the size they used to be. He just really isn't eating that many crickets so I have been giving him silks last week but he only wanted 2 at time and this week supers, only 3-4 a day. Should I be feeding him every 2 days or what???? All feeders are free range.

Yes, you could start feeding him every other day. I always thought it was more when they were about 12 mos old or so but I was told other wise but a senior member. It may spark their appetite more if they are not fed everyday. I have a 9 month old who refuses to eat crickets and I am feeding silks and supers. I have gone to every other day and he does seem to be more hungry when he is not fed for a day.

Yeah I got a great tip from a breeder sponser of this site and she suggested feeding every other day and that in her experience it is better for the animals digestion and poops.

I feed all my chameleons, young and old, almost every day. There's nothing wrong with this, so long as the amount is correct. You do not have to switch to every other day feeding at all. not that there is anything wrong with every other day feeding, again so long as the amount is right. Using a variety of feeders (a different bug each day from the last) is also good for ensuring they dont get bored.

Its also quite normal for them to reduce their intake as growth slows. So long as your chameleon is not loosing weight, so long as it is drinking well (white urates), normal activity level, no reason to worry. two silkworms or 3 supers or equivalent crickets in a day is plenty, if he needs more he'll eat more.
