My 2.5 ambilobe panther male chameleon has been eating 15-20 crickets in the morning every day. This is at like 7am. Im curious to give him more but the expense of crickets at .15 a piece. Is anybody experiencen the same thing. I don't want to start with worms because I don't want to spoil him. What is the best way out to feed him crickets and not pay so much. I was thinking about breeding but then my time schedule is not so good and by that time the crickets will be swarming with bacteria....

If your scheudle permits, I would feed half in the am and half in the afternoon and spread it out. You could add some worms in as treats. Order your crickets online in bulk. You are paying way too much!!! Ghann's cricket farm is one of the places you can order.

I was having the same issue

I went online and ordered 500 cickets and put them in a large plaster storage container. I put holes on the sides and duct taped screen on there so they would have air-flow. I put a bunch of egg crates and empty TP rolls with a bunch of food for them.

It works pretty good. 500 crickets we really cheap and it helps not having to go to the store all the time. The only draw back is cleaning up after the crickets. Its nice to just grab a handfull and put them in with my chem though...

Is he ready for larger crickets? That might save you some cash, although don't try to save money at the expense of your animal's health. On line is definitely the way to go, and keeping 500 - 1000 crickets is not tough at all.

I agree you might like to offer the crickets over two meals (like 7am and noon) for an animal that young.
You will want to provide more than just crickets. No reason not to offer larva such as silkworms, butterworms, superworms as part of your chameleons diet - this isnt spoiling him, its giving him the variety he will crave and the opportunity for more varied nutrient intake. You may also consider roaches, terrestrial isopods, cultured bottle flies....
Purchasing crickets online and in quantity can be less expensive than purchasing from a local pet store, but only if you are going to be able to use most of the quantity you buy (crickets only live about 6 weeks from hatching, so if you buy 3 week old crickets you've only got 3 weeks to use them all up). You may be able to negotiate a better price where you already purchase, for buying frequently.
If you find crickets expensive, you are going to find having a chameleon very expensive. If cricket breeding isnt your thing, consider dubia or another roach (easy to breed, and can form up to half of the chameleons diet, thus reducing your cricket and other bug purchases significantly).
