So I have a 4 month old veiled chameleon, he's a male.

He has crickets running around his cage and mealworms in a dish...
but I just saw him look at the plant that is in his cage and eat the soil...
Does anyone know why he did this?

Yes, My Memphis did this when I first got him home at 3 mo old.. i looked it up and a lot of folks said minerals were lacking in his diet. I got a good reptile multi-vit supplement that I now dust crickets w/ once a month. Haven't seen him do it since. A side note: If you have stone in the soil he could choke. Cover the soil with moss or some other natural product that he can't get stuck in his throat.

Moss could still pose a risk. Cover the soil with river rocks, large enough that he can't puck any up it eat/swallow.
