Depends on the "gnat". If I had to establish a rule of thumb, I'd say the chances of the chameleon actually hitting a gnat with their tongue is slim, but if they did, I'd say no issues. They're so small and probably similar to fruit flies in makeup, but it depends on what the gnat was feeding on, and that can never be anticipated.

I recommend against feeding wild insects to you chameleons unless you've kept them in captivity and fed them a controlled diet free of pesticides. I believe it takes 3 days for the pesticides to cycle out of the insect.
