Easy Ways to Photograph Chameleons?

My cham seems to be deathly affraid of my digital camera, I have tried multiple times to get pictures of him with no luck.

The second he sees the camera, he's all over the cage trying to hide from it, he usually moves to the back and hides behind the branches where I can't get the camera.

Should I try when he's sleeping? He doesn't show any colors when sleeping yet, he just turns bright lime green. During the day I can see his pattersn/colors a lot better which I was trying to capture.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

I would recommend taking pictures of your cham outside of the the cage on a plant or tree. My best photos come from when my chams are outside in the natural light.

He's 3 months old, had him for 2-3 weeks. I have not attempted to handle him yet.

I don't have an outdoor tree for him yet, I live in an apartment complex and I live on the 3rd level so I am a bit worried about taking him outside without 100% supervision.

That's a great idea jannb. My juvenile ambilobes are scared of my digital camera. I will attempt some outside photos later.

Right now I think it's too hot to take him outside, it's going to be 97 out today, and it's already in the mid 80's higher than I keep his basking spot, and his lights aren't even on yet (640am here).
