eastern painted turtle questions

I was wondering if anyone here has any knowledge on the care of an eastern painted turtle? A friend of mine has just had one given to her... and she has pretty much no idea what to do to care for it. It is an aquatic turtle, about 2 1/2" diameter the person that gave it to her said it was 3 years old. Thanks for any help you can give.
