early stages of respiratory infection?

ahh im scared ive got a panther whos about 6 months old and today i heard him cough twice with maybe about a minute between the 2. i just recently (2 to 3 days ago) moved him from his small repti breeze to his 4 ft cage and he seems to be loving it. i looked in his mouth and saw some mucus but not very much at all. hes been pretty active eating and drinking normally and just shed yesterday. i was wondering if anyone can send me a pic of what nomal mucus should look like in their chams mouth?! this is a pic of him last night.

Signs of an RI would be puffing out the chin, extra saliva in the month and might make s popping noise.

Get him to the vets ASAP, and please keep us informed of his progress! :)

And, not eating, drinking, moving around much. Sitting dark colored under his basking spot more and more, resting with his snout tipped straight upright. The "mucous in mouth" thing can be subjective as they do have saliva after all, but I think I'd be looking for the lethargy, color and no appetite to decide.
 
hes eating and drinking normally im almost positive he has an RI but until his appointment which is saturday is there anything you can recommend?

yeah based on the symptoms it sounds like it. When my guy had a respiratory infection one of the forum members suggested a warm mist humidifier at night and slightly elevated basking temps (during the day).

Other than that make sure he's drinking well, also if they give him meds it will likely affect his appetite so maybe feed him extra the next few days.

is the vet your going to experienced with chameleons, I ask because altho the one I went to was a "exotic" vet. I don't think they had much experience with chams. At first she tried to blindly give antibiotics (they should do a culture and sensitivity test, so they know what bacteria they're dealing with and what meds work on it), then she had suggested meds that would have only treated 1 of the 2 bacterial infections he had.

Thankfully I posted the results along with her suggested treatment and one of the members caught it, so I asked about the other meds.(Thank God for these forums)
 
i dont know how experienced the doc is when it comes to chams i was kinda worried about that too but im going to ask him when i see him. hes really the only doc i can see right now.
 
i just talked to a breeder and he said it could also be that his mouth is really dry and ive been lacking on my misting. the past couple of days ive been busy and working lots so havent been able to mist as much as usual. he said to mist and water more often and keep the temp slightly higher and wait a couple days before going to the vet. its been hours now and i really havent heard any noise coming from him. so hopefully it stays this way...
 
yeah maybe, keep a close eye on him. If your to busy for hand misting it maybe time to invest in a automatic mister (like mistking or aquazamp). I work way to much my self not to have one.
 
yeah im watching him closely and so far so good. woot!! i just fed him his first roach today it was cute he had no idea what it was at first. he scoped it out for a second before deciding to eat it. awwww :)
