dwarf jackson eyes wont open

i have recently aquired a couple of dwarf jacksons a male and a female. the female is doing great eating and drinkin the male however is not. i have not seen him eat and i have to basically spray him in the face before he starts drinking. now his one eye wont open and his other eye barely opens. i have a reptisun flourecent bulb for uvb and a lower wattage basking bulb i think its a 45 watt. his cage is about 3ft tall and 14"x14". i spray him down the same as all the others twice a day but since his eye problem started spraying him directly instead of just the leaves for him to drink off of and i am spraying him more often. if anyone has any ideas on whats going on it would be greatly appreciated. first pic is the eye that wont open. second is the eye that opens a little third is the enclosure.

Some compact lights can cause eye problems. Maybe you should try taking the light off to see what happens?

Are you using the same lights on both cages?

i think i see like a creamy white film over the eye if it is what i think i see that might be the problem

I see a couple of things. First you need to get rid of your "Compact" uvb bulb and get a linear(long) tube bulb like the Reptisun 5.0. Also there is white substance covering your chams eye, which caused the issue or came from the issue. Other than making a vet appointment, I would get a plant and put it in your shower and let the cham take some long warm showers. It could help clean his eye.

I picked up a pair of these earlier this year. It's my opinion the WC Mt. Merus are very difficult to acclimate. My female died with in a day. My male ate and drank the first couple days then start closing his eyes and went down hill from there. They were definitely not in the best condition when I bought them and I knew it was going to be a gamble.

I wish I could ofer some advice but I tried and failed. Next time I will only purchase CB Mt. Merus. Good luck.

mt meru jacksons wc have had for about 3 weeks

almost never just took him out early to feel his grip and get a close look at his eye

he hasnt eaten at least not that i've seen but the female eats crickets i throw half a dozen in there about 2 or 3 times a week depending on how fast she eats them and i leave meal worms at the bottom in a dish that she eats whenever she feels like maybe 3 or 4 a week she eats

i dust the crickets with tetra reptolife and reptocal once a week

i use a hand sprayer twice a day and i see them drink but i have been spraying the male down more frequently and he drinks more when i spray him in the face instead of just on the leaves

never tested to my knowledge but he is pooing brown nd white

Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? i turned off the compact florecent. wondering if there is another type of uvb bulb that will fit the regular fixture. and lights are on 12 off 12 also a 45 watt heat lamp

Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? i dont have a thermometer on it but my house is around 70 and a little cooler at night also he has the heat lamp

Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
i spray him a few times a day but otherwise not sure about the humidity

there is a live plant in there not sure what kind it is its like a small palm tree

the cage is in my room so no one bothers it most of the day and it sits on the floor

the female has the same compact florecent bulb but she is in a smaller glass screen combo cage and is doing great. her cage is the equivalent of a 10 gallon. i also had a much smaller female bout them as a trio but she looked bad from day one and only lasted about 3 days. should i move the male to a smaller cage like the female has?

At the moment I believe there is no decent compact uvb bulb, since you have only had him for three weeks I don't think your bulb affected him. I would def get a temp and humidity gauge, you should be able to get a fairly cheap one at a hardware or big box store. If your weather allows it I would take him outside to get some real UVB from the sun and also try "Misting" him in the shower with warm water. Misting isn't just for the to drink it's for raising their humidity level as well as cleaning them. Most use automatic misters that run for a few minutes at a time, twice or more a day. It can be hard to mist that much with a hand mister. Good luck.
