You want to dust enough to where they turn a lighter shade of color, and not where they look like little ghost buggies. 
Also, you don't want to dust all types of bugs as some are already high in calcium. Crickets, roaches, superworms, meal worms are all good for dusting. Butterworms, Phoenix worms, silkworms, or hornworms do not need dusting.
