Dusting Horn Worms?

Hey guys,

I'm starting to make Horn Worms a "main course" to Ender's diet. He REALLY likes them and I love feeding them to him. I know they've got great nutritional value (I'm feeding him those from Mulberry Farms on Yellow diet) but I'm curious to know if I should still dust them with calcium whenever I feed them to him?

I'm sure I should still do D3 and Multivitamin every 2 weeks, I'm mostly just concerned with the calcium because I know they have like 46 or 47mg of it in them already.

Thanks,
Dillon

I don't think you have to dust hornworms with calcium. Keep offering a variety though. The "fiber" in crunchy insects is important for a cham's digestive tract. Yes, maintain the multivitamin and D3 schedule normally.

I really wish my Jax liked hornworms. :)

I only dust cricks and roaches, never dust any kind of worms.
But you do need to offer a varied diet.
Cricks just happen to be my favorite feeder because all my chams like them, and also because they are great gut load vehicles since they will eat anything.

Horns and silkies are nice to have around for hand feeding, to help tame your cham.
I never feed only horns or silkies though, I will give them a few by hand, then follow with some dusted cricks or dubia.

I have one chameleon who has some issue with aim and has a hard time eating. I have to hand feed him and help with getting the food items. Worms are much easier for him to catch (I still feed him roaches and other hard insects, but worms are the main diet). I dust his hornworms a couple times a week to be sure he is getting what he needs.

Great, thanks guys :)

He has a hard time pulling them off the branch, so his tongue gets stuck to them and he pulls but it doesn't come off... Should I be worried that he'll hurt himself like that?
