Dubia vs. Red Runner...

Any opinions on these two species and raising?

Red Runners are something I will never touch. They easily infest your house no matter the temps and humidity if even just one female escapes. Dubia roaches have a hard time infesting and living outside of their bin if you keep heat on them as the sudden drop in temperature often kills them off. Even if it doesn't kill them right away they won't breed in low temps. Red runners however are easier to digest and stay smaller. I just don't trust them. Dubia are adorable in my eyes, power houses when it comes to eating, and easily can create a colony within 6 months.

Heat is needed with both, both prefer dark spaces. Dry food is needed and wet food which I just use veggies and fruit. Egg crates which I save over time, and then I clean my dubias once a month.

I've been feeding my dubia only fruits and veggies from leftovers and too long kept for self consumption

Why dry needed?

It's an easy way to round out their diet, add protein where just fruits and veggies can give it. You can also make certain dry foods have supplements in them, which will boost the nutrition of the insect. Which is what I do when I make mine.

Blend up some cat food or fish food pellets into a Sugar like consistansy. Mix some calcium in and there is your dry food

No, animal proteins are not good for chameleons. They can cause all sorts of health issues especially gout.
