I have a 4 month old panther and was wondering if 1" big Dubois are too big for him? only reason why I'm asking is I have a neighbor down the street who has only large size du bias and is willing to sell me some for super cheap

Probably too big. While not a complete rule, go for feeders equal to or less than the length of the mouth opening or "lips", at least with wide feeders like dubia. So it depends on the size of you cham. Generally, smaller and more numerous is recommended. Hope that helps.
 
Maybe you can get your own colony started by buying some adult males and females? They're really easy to keep.
