Dubia roaches in FL

So when the law says you can't own chameleons anymore you will comply? There are plenty of ignorant laws out there. This law is like closing the barn door AFTER the animals are gone. I'm sure all the dubia previously shipped here vanished right after the law was enacted. My guess is they will ban everything they can at some point in Florida and it will solve nothing. I'm all for Discoids but as they are not native to Florida I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they are banned as well. So I guess we had all better start breeding Palmetto bugs to feed the Chams at least until the Chams are banned.

Discoids are already established in the wild, which is why, at least as I was told (by a much bigger and more knowledgeable roach breeder/keeper than I,) they are legal to keep in FL.

I looked for the story on the guy that was arrested but I didn't see any outcome, fines, jail etc.

In any event having dealt with various state governments about their bans and how they chose them, I have decided that most of them must throw darts at a book and ban whatever it hits or look at pictures and pick the ones they don't like. They often are unable to give you any explanation of why they chose that animal or what they think it would harm. To me that's astounding, if you are going to introduce a ban how tough would it be to include the reason.

In the case of the roaches are you going to tell me with a straight face that there are no predators in Florida that will eat them? If we are going to have laws and get the people to follow them, then they should be easy to explain and have a solid reason for being. That is not the case for most animal bans.

I've always been told to find WC discoids check out dumps. If that's the case and they are mostly found in dumps only, I dont see the point in banning them. If they're eating the garbage, let them eat!

However, if another spcies is released I dont know what the out come would be! It could have very little effect or it could find some rare native plant and make the plant its favorite food! Maybe someone else would know better. It seems that it wouldnt be too much of an issue, but who knows?
