Have just received adult roaches and they are HUGE. I plan to start a colony.LOL:D does anyone feed these beasts to their Cham? Are they not too big?:D

They are way too big as adults to feed my chams - an adult male is about the same length as little Zippy's body, bless him! I just keep mine as a colony and feed off the nymphs. They are HORRID things those roaches. I hate having to clean them out but I am getting better with them now - just wouldn't want one to climb on my hand! Ugh!

Thanks Tiff. They are monsters. I will personally kill anyone who lets one loose.:) I'm just at the experimental stage just now.:(

I remember the first time I asked for mediums and was shocked at the size! If the shop hadn't been so busy I would have asked for smaller ones instead, but pride got the better of me and I brought the 'mediums' home. I felt sick as I tried to get them out of the tub and into my roach box! My daughter videod the whole awful thing whilst crying with laughter! It does get easier, I promise! I can now pick the males up by their wings but I can't have ths icky scratchy feet touch my skin! The babies are soooo cute though, just like woodlice, lol!

I ordered mediums as well and they don't look too big. I look forward to the experiment.( not) LOL:D

We had an adult male loose in the house - my son found it one night upstairs - it was fluttering around under the light! I had mine in a tub with neting over secured with elastic and one still got out - I know it had to have got out itself as I am sooooo careful with them cos they are so nasty! Since I had to be brave and catch the thing in a cup I haven't been so bad with them. I watched a male one night - it kept climbing on top of the egg crate and leaping off whilst flapping it's wings. I am convinced that it somehow managed to wriggle under the elastic and make it's bid for freedom. They now live in a faunarium with a secure lid!

I have them in a faunarium and plan to put it into a polystyrene box with a heat mat on a thermostat at 90 degrees. I have a baking cooling rack on top of the heat mat so they don't cook. Do you think that will work? They are going into the garage!:D how long do the adults live?

I think 18 months is the general lifespan. I have a colony I started a few months back with about 600 adults. It is growing but not enough for me to feed out of yet. I use a ceramic heat emitter on a clamp lamp inside a closet. Keeps them nice and warm :). I have some escapes form my dragon cages but I typically find them dead inside the house once they get out. Thank goodness!
