Drooling...Please Help

Hey All,

I have a Chameleon that is roughly 2-3 years of age, he was given to me from a friend of mine who moved away, the past 2 days I have noticed when he has been drinking he drools?? I have never seen this before.

He is a Maroansetra Panther Chameleon, if anyone has seen Will Haywards Chameleon Yamanu... I have him. He is in a 260 gallon Flexarium, his basking area is between 95 and 105, and he has an exo-terra UVB 5 fluroescent tube light.

He has lots of room to move about, alot of branches and vines, he seems happy just noticed the drooling over the past few days. He is eating fine, he ate 12 superworms yesterday. He is a nice bright red colour.

For supplements I am using Jurassical Calcium Powder, I get it at Petsmart. His light UVB is going to be changed next week as it is closing in on the 6 month range. He eats every 2nd day and I dust with calcium powder twice a week.

Please help if you have ever heard of this before, if you need more info on the Chameleon post it and I will do my best to answer your questions.

Thanks
Shane

Your basking temp is way too hot. It should be a Maximum of 95. 105 is way way too hot.

As for the drooling, I've seen this is the chameleon is dehydrated and tries to drink too much at once. I think this may be due to your very high basking temps.

I only have 1 100W Sun Glo bulb for a 260 Gallon Flexarium and that is too hot?? If this is the case I have no problems changing it, but I figured that would be too little for the size of the Flexarium. I have a 75W tight beam light would that be more beneficial to him? It is for a beardie tho?

I would get rid of the sun glo. Just use a normal house hold lamp (bulb) or get a ZooMed daytime lamp (the blue lamps) That is a large cage. I had the 30x30x48 (can't remember the gallons) and I used two 60w ZooMed lamps in opposite corners. I also used two Reptisun 10.0 36" Lamps across the middle of the cage. The Retariums block a lot of UV and for being such a deep cage you need as much as you can get without going overboard. I used two 10.0's with no issues. You should also meter the temps in the cage. What are the temps lower in the cage? How often do you mist? Do you track the weight of your cham? Does he have any other issues besides drooling? I have never seen this, but maybe some others have.

I would work on the lighting, it seems his cage is a bit hot.

Good luck!
