Dripper question.

Sup. Just have a some questions about the dripper... It came with a tube so do you guys recommend on putting a small hole on top of the cage and insert the tube inside or can I just let it drip from a high height above the cage???

I let it drip through the screen.

I never cut a hole, just positioned the tube where I wanted it to drip which can be tricky at times cause the water pools and drips not exactly where you want it. If you tap you finger on the screen you can usually get the water to start dripping where your finger is. I have a Flukers drip and I took off the tube and found it much easier to not use the tube and just let the spicket drip right through the screen. You can position it exactly where you want it to drip and it stays there. With the tube laying on the top of the screen sometimes the water starts dripping in other places as the water collects..

The tube that came with my little dripper from zoo-med was curled slightly and refused to flatten out. So I simply picked an appropriate height above my golden pothos plant and poked a hole through the side screen with my Gerber multi-tool. I made sure to poke from the inside out to ensure the sharp bits of screen were facing out and not /in/ the cage where they could hurt my cham. Through all the test runs I've done this week, the dripper is doing excellent with this method.

I have that dripper too so it works better without the tube when you place it in top on the cage?

Oh yeah can I leave over night or that's not necessary?

yes, I have found it works better without the tube. Do not run the dripper at night. The lights are out and the water will not evaporate much and there is no need anyways because your chameleon will be sleeping and not drinking.

well leave it on as much as you can so he has continual access to water. If you are not around though to clean up the excess water then it could pose a problem with flooding out the bottom of the cage, unless you have a drainage system in place. It does not have to be on ALLl day though.

By leaving the tubing on the screen I found it difficult to have the drip drop consistently on the leaf or wherever I wanted it, instead it would often drip to the bottom or in the pot. Also I noticed by having the drip drop on the plant it water logged them. So I said screw it and made a hole. At first I had it dripping on the leaf, but I soon noticed that he would 99% of the time drink from the tubing rather than the droplets on the leaf. So now I have it positioned so that it hits a vine then drops straight to the bottom running into the drain. No more water logged plants, no more issues.
