Drinking success

the wee dude

Since getting our cham we've been trying to find ways to make our wee dude drink more, and we found the answer:D A rodents water bottle, the kind you'd give to a hamster! He loves it and readily gulps the water down. He's never been dehydrated, but the more water the better i think. So was just wondering if anyone else used this way or other ways to give their cham water??

he drinks from the bottle!!??? what??

Ive never heard that. Running water off of leaves is the only way my chams know how to drink. how did you get him to know there was water in the moddle? and how does he drink from it? this is crazy

that's a really interesting idea. I wonder if it would work for my guy in conjunction with his dripper & mistings. It would certainly be a good way to give him more access to water without flooding his cage.

How on earth did you get a cham to use a rodent waterer???!!!

I had thought about it once, but decided, no way it could happen!! LOL

I just held it in front of him and gently squeezed it till it started to drip, then he practicaly lunged for it, mouth open and drank straight away!! He stays well away from his dripper, so i was very surprised when he drank from the bottle. Wish i tried it sooner.

That's so funny :)

I am going to try it for Smeagol. He already chews on the plastic tip of his dripper, he should get the hang of this pretty quick!! :D

It is pretty funny to think about, and very funny to see. A reptile drinking from a rodent waterer lol yeah defo try it, and let us know how you and your wee one get on with it:)

I had read that in a book. The author said he gives his chameleons water in a bottle too. He said he still mists and leaves in a dripper, but they "hand" water them too. According to him they are really attracted to the silver ball in the tip. I'll have to try this weekend because I've worried that my guy is not getting enough water (although his pee is always white) - he hates the dripper

The only thing that bugs me is that Smeagol will they to chew it like he does his soft plastic dripper, only these are metal!!
I dont want to take him to a reptile dentist :D

i'm going to try this with Amy. she's been drinking... i know she has cause i just saw her do it the other day.. but i posted a pic and someone thought that she may be a little dehydrated.. so like you said, the more the better right? i saw someone post this on reddit and i was pretty baffled.. but now, i will definitely try it!

your right, it sparkles pretty well under his light, prob what attracted him to it in the first place. Leon kinda tries to bite/french kiss the metal bit, but i hold it so it only just touches his top lip, and gently squeeze when his mouth opens. Just be carefull if you do try it, a mouth injury could be pretty bad. I'm just pleased that i've seen him drinking, kind of a relief to be honest.

I'm thinking, get one that is known to leak a little, that would actually be a good thing for our purpose because the drip would attract the cham.

I see some cheap ones at Amazon, so I will try one and report what happens ;)
