Draining system?

Hey guys,
I posted a thread in the health clinic, but no one seems to be reading it.
I explained how I took my cham to the vet today and got some antibiotics to give him. He's very sick right now. He won't eat or drink, and he won't even open his eyes. I have to force feed with a syringe as of now. Hopefully he'll get better soon..
Anyways, in my other thread, I went on to say that I searched my cage for the cause of the problem. I'm pretty sure I found it. The plant that's in the cage has a trey to catch water under the pot. I lifted the pot up and found about three inches of disgusting water with dead crickets floating in it. It truly smelled awful. I'm sure this is what cause him to get sick.
So I need to think of a draining system. The thing is.. my ceiling is very low. I can only raise the cage about ten inches before there is no room left for the lights on top. I need a way to get a draining system going that will work without being so high up.
Thanks guys!!

A popular draining system here is to get one of the washer over flow bases from lowes/home depot(32x27" or something). They sell 2, you want the ribbed thick walled one that cost 5 bucks more, not the thin smooth one. Then you can either attach the supplied drain hose, or just suck it out with a wet/dry vac every day or 2. I dont drench mine, so my 1/4 gallon a day of water gets evaporated off from the plants and base, so i normally dont have standing water.

Another tip i use for plants. I put my plants in 2gallon buckets and line the bottom inch or 2 with rocks for drainage. I have to worry about over watering, but not about dead cricket water.
