Double clutching

My pair of panthers mated on Sept 17th and then my female laid her first clutch on Oct 1st. We are pretty sure the clutch was infertile since she laid them so quickly after mating yet we incubated them anyway. Looks like we were right since most have gone bad and we only have 6 left which look questionable. We were kind of expecting her to double clutch since it seemed possible she already had eggs coming before we mated her so maybe those couldn't be fertilized but she would lay another fertile clutch soon after the first. That never happened. It's now about 2 1/2 months since she laid and she is showing signs of being gravid again. We have not mated her since that first time in Sept since we wanted her to fully recover from the clutch she already laid and had no plans to mate her until around June. But since it seems she is gravid I'm just wondering if it's possible these eggs will be fertile? Does this happen often that a female lays so quickly after mating then again 2 to 3 months later?

We'll most if not all chameleons can retain sperm so it's very possible for them to be fertile this batch. Retaining sperm is why people get fertile eggs from WC chameleons.

Thanks for the quick response. Yea I had read that just wasn't sure how long they could retain it. 3 months seems long to me but I have no experience with this so wasn't sure. I will definitely treat them as if they are fertile then.

Thanks for your input Jann. It's amazing how long they can retain sperm! Definitely good for survival in the wild I'm sure! I hope most of this clutch is fertile
