Baby is getting ready to lay again. Oh, 15 month old veiled. I have a male, Nacho, I did put them together a couple weeks ago but I think now night be the time. I tried to put her in with him today but she gets quite pissy at me then they see each other and they both look pissy.

Honestly, I don't want to breed her. Not yet, maybe next time.

Is this a problem not to breed?????

You don't have to breed them if you don't want too. Also the female's reaction will tell you if she wants to breed or not. It sounds like she doesn't want to anyway.

Is she already gravid if she is getting ready to lay again?

Ya, I think she's pretty ready, been 120 days now. She was scratching at the divider to the male's enclosure, so I thought she wanted my boy. But I think she's past breeding time.

And her reaction is typical for her when being handled....she is really aggressive about being handled.

I fixed the divider so they can't see each other at all now.

Nothing says a female HAS to be bred.

That myth about females dying if not bred, is just that, a myth.

Females can go their entire lives and not breed and be just fine.

In fact, not breeding them can extend their life.

Thanks, it's what I thought too, but sometimes need reassurance that its okay. Maybe next spring I'll try but as of right this second Baby is digging and digging so I'm thrilled she's found her happy hole and hopefully by the end of day she'll have laid. This will be her second clutch. First was June 10 so it's exactly 137 days.

receptive time

I read in one book where the female virgin receptive time may last only 3-4 days as opposed to a female who has bred before. therefore if you miss that window, you can be out of luck. their colors may not change for a day or two after they are no longer receptive as a virgin. it is all hormones hormones hormones.
