DIY Fogger?? Anyone?

So, I am getting tired of buying expensive foggers for all of my Quads. Anyone know how to make a good fogger, and not just a humidifier. I use the fog at the top of screen cages so the condinsation builds up and creates a dripper all day, so just a humidifier really don't work well for me. I know I can simply add a mister, but why when I can have less things running and less unsightly crap to look at?

Be sure to use RO in your ultrasonic....

I don't know if its the hard water here or what by my two humidifiers died pretty quick..... both of them having lots of hard water deposits.....

I saw another forum member here have a set up where they cap the humidifier with a tupperware type bowl (4 oz?) and glue a pvc pipe to the cup and have it run to the top of the cage with a few holes pointing down toward the cage that the fog comes out of. I was thinking that the tubing was a little big, maybe .5 in., and was thinking something smaller like .25 will allow quite a bit of thick fog to be pushed through to the cage. Thoughts on this?

Was it mine?

Either way, this was super easy to make. I just cut out a gladware dish with a blade, and hot glued the living crap out of everything.

The coolmist humidifier is available at target/walmart/etc in the medicine section.

If anything, I overload humidity with it. I just have a panther, so I usually just use it on hot days or when he is shedding.

This is the Vicks 5100N. It works PERFECT for 2" PVC piping.

I used a 2" slip to 1.5" FPT PVC bushing to get a venteri effect.

It really makes the fog speed up and travel farther.

Yes, it was your set up I saw. What was your experience with it creating percipition? I would be using a smaller, thicker planted screen enclosure - about half size of your cage. I'd run the pipe to the top of the cage like yours and burn 3 small whole directed down at the cage. I was thinking of using smaller piping, so the fog is thicker as it comes out. This would be a set up I would run in the morning and late afternoon to allow the enclosure the dry out and create a humidity cycle. I would have to see how much moisture it creates, but the plan is to run it for like 10 mintues twice a day as a main source of drinkable moisture and then either mist or use a drip cup to ensure there is plenty of drinkable water. Thoughts? This idea is similar to how Josh has his Quads set up. I'd be using it for a Montaine species.

Very helpful Chris, thanks. PVC for me seems to be the way to go. I'm going to try out the "L cap" method to see how it works - with the pipe pointing onto the screen. If that isn't working for me, I'll switch up to a pipe along the top with holes cut in.

Does anybody have any opinions on noise from the humidifier unit and stress in animals? Seems running from ground level rack to middle rack would be best low stress way to go, but a unit next to the cage will take up less space. Thoughts?
