Digging

April is digging in one of our potted plants, I have a box of sand in the enclosure with her about 3 to 4 times the size of the plant she is digging in, how hard is it to try and get her to change the digging site? I put her in the sand and all she wants to do is climb out...any help would be great...

Some of them change quite easily and others have their minds made up that one site is the only one to use. I would let her dig where she wants to I think....as long as it will be possible for her to dig there (ie: soil is "diggable".)

My panther always use the plants its natural looking for the root system. Let her lay then just pull the plant out of the planter . Makes it easy to remove the eggs.

This is one of the reasons I;

-Use fully planted bottoms with drainage, or
-Try to use larger pots than needed for the pants. Especially lower but larger circumference.

I placed her in her outdoor enclosure added her sand box and 57 eggs later she is healthy and happy back in the swing of things...

Smart move Ren!

Smart move Ren! Congratulations on the eggs too! This next group will be easier since you have done it before....but harder because you may be swarmed with babies :) Maybe you will get lucky and they will hatch over a couple of weeks and not a couple of days! Do your daughters watch the digging process and watch you move them into the incubation containers? What a cool Dad you are :)

Yes they all 3 watch and help me count the eggs and take care of April afterwards with plenty of water and food available for her when she is ready to eat.. Emma is anxious to help me build a new bigger enclosure for her Panther for when she gets bigger...I try to include them in these types of things because i find it a great learning experience for them.. and I'm learning something too...
