diatomaceous earth

my girl Cleo

Does anybody know if diatomaceous earth is harmful for chameleons to be around? We have a couple dogs and wanted to find something to dust or carpets and furniture for fleas now that spring is here. I just want to make sure it won't harm my girl before we do. If anyone knows or has any suggestions it would be much appreciated!

Only if it was somehow inhaled.

I don't know if it would be effective for fleas. My understanding of it is the sharp microscopic projections on the diatoms would cut into soft bodied insects and they sort of lose their innards or dehydrate or something similar. I think flea's exoskeleton might be too hard for it to work. Not really sure though.

Works for fleas and any other kind of insects. It is non-toxic if you get food grade. But do not inhale. You or your pets. Kills by dehydrating the bug. They simply dry up and die. But it is a mess! Gets into everything and good luck trying to vaccumn it just blows around out of the exhaust
