Current Problem - she started to shed yesterday, last night when I shut off her light I saw loose stool - cleaned that up. This morning I found the nasty diarrhea below. Can this be related to the shedding? Or, about 5 days ago we saw her eat her poo -only once...parasites maybe?? Or, over the weekend we gave her organic melon (I thought she looked dry - didn't realize she was beginning to shed). She didn't eat this morning, maybe because of the shed or both? Should I call a vet??

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your new female veiled. Runny stool can be a sign of parasites and I would recommend a fecal. Also she is at an age that she can have eggs......not that it would have anything to do with the loose stool but I just wanted to make sure you have a laying bin in the enclosure for her. She looks like she could have eggs in the photo. I have a few links for you below to help you keep your little girl healthy.

I would def get a fecal no matter what just because i personally believe it is good practice for all chameleons no matter their stool. I and most people just do it annually to ensure overall good health. Aside from that, I wouldn't be to concerned with the runny stool so long as you do go get a fecal done. This will find any parisites along with just another annual check in the box. I can say that for my guy, if i feed him alot of berries or fruit in a certain amount of time i find that he has runny poo for about a day. So with that being sad as long as you do the fecal check im sure she is just fine.

5-6 crickets a day plus mealworms are a bit too much for a female IMO. I would cut that in half and offer meal worms only occasionally, they are fat and hard to digest. You could try other, more beneficial feeders.

sorry...I typed that wrong. I give her 5-6 dusted crickets twice a day - meal worms and superworms occasionally (twice a week for the afternoon meal at most) and once wax worms. We are feeding her more because she was pretty skinny when we got her last month.

Thank you! I am calling the vet now to find out about the fecal. DH thought it was the fruit - this time I'm glad he may be right :)

Thanks for the info - I've read tons of stuff on this site - before she shed I was wondering if she was with eggs because of the way she was acting. But now, I wonder if she looks like that because she's puffed up from the shed?? Anyway, I"m getting dirt for a laying bin today! Thank you!!

I agree with Jann.. she looks like she may have eggs. Keep us updated after her vet visit. It's definitely good to have fecals done at least a couple of times a year. Good luck! :)
