Urates are the best way to tell if the animal is hydrated.

Chameleon Info:
* Your Chameleon - Veiled, Male, about 7 weeks - had for 3 weeks. purchased from FLChams
* Handling - Maybe once or twice a week in order to let him bask outside
* Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? 1/4 crickets and phoenix worms What amount? What is the schedule? I put 12 crickets in the cage inthe morning and 2 small worms - usually have 2-4 crickets still alive by 6 pm - sometimes I find the worms sometimes not. How are you gut-loading your feeders? homemade mixture of carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, oranges, celery put through a food processor Also cricket crack and pieces of apple, carrots and chunks of veggies or fruit
* Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? Every day Repti calcium - wednesdays, every other week Rep-Cal Herbtivite multi vit., Repti calcium w/D3
* Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? Mist King How often and how long to you mist? Every 2 hours for 4 minutes between 7:30am - 5:30 pm -Do you see your chameleon drinking? No - but he climbs under it everytime it starts up
* Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. They look perfect, but can't always find them. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? No

* Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? 12 on/of - Deep dome with a 60w grow light for basking -Reptisun T8 5.0 tube placed diagonally on top
* Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? 90-67 Lowest overnight temp? 63 How do you measure these temps? humidity temperature gauge near top and thermometer resting in plant pot near bottom
* Humidity - What are your humidity levels? 50% How are you creating and maintaining these levels? Nothing - just using misting and live plants What do you use to measure humidity? Zoo Med duel thermometer humidity gauge

I don't agree. The best way to tell is to look at the body condition.

I don't understand your question.
Look at their body condition. A dehydrated chameleon will look very thin. Look especially over their back/hips/base of tail. Look at their skin. It should be plump and full. Pull up the skin and see if it tents.
Dark urates are really far into the whole dehydration problem. You need to catch it much earlier.
