Hi,

I am totally new to Chameleon and I did read a lot before got my veiled chameleon.

So here is my problem. I just got my female veiled chameleon three days ago. I never see her drinks. Today I just see her urate. It's yellowish orange colour and I know it's a sign of dehyration. Could you please help?

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled Chameleon, Female, 6-8 months old (Can't sure). Got her 3 days ago.
Handling - Never.
Feeding - 10 gutloaded crickets. (about 1/3 inches), 3 superworms yesterday.
Supplements - I used calcium with D3 once and without D3 once. Only fed 3 times at the moment.
Watering - Misting 3 to 4 times per day. And also has a dripper.
Fecal Description - See pics.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Zoomed screen cage. (16"x16"x30")
Lighting - 40w Basking bulb and a 5.0 UVB
Temperature - Basking temp around 90, bottom of cage around 75. At night it will be around 70-75
Humidity - 50-80%
Plants - Fake plants
Placement - In the living room. Sometimes quite noisy. And it set in a high place. The top of the cage is about 6 feet from the floor.
Location - I live in Hong Kong.

Current Problem - Dehydration??? She's eating well though and active.

P.S. Actually it got more leaves in the cage than the pic shows and I am sure that after misting she got lots of water drops around her. She's just not licking at all.

You seem to be doing what you need to be to provide water. Sometimes chameleons will not drink in front of people. Her urate does not look that bad. One thing I would try and lower your basking temp a little and also I would remove that container to catch the water. It is too deep and if it filled up with water too much and your cham fell in it she could drown. I would use something much more shallow to catch the drops. Also it looks as though you are using a compact 5.0 bulb. Just check her eyes and makes sure she is not closing them during the day. Some of the compact bulbs have been known to cause eye issues. If you have problems switch out to the 5.0 tube. Also only use the calcium with d3 twice a month and the regular calcium every feeding. You should also get a multivitmin use twice a month also..

Carol, thanks for your information!

When I saw the urate, I was quite worried. It's good to hear that it's not that bad.

I already removed the container and put a shallow tray to catch the water. And I have bought the multi vitamin, just not used it yet.

And also thank for reminding that the UVB bulb. I will take a look at it to see if I need to change it.

you are welcome! good luck with your new cham! I am glad you removed the container! That would worry me!!!
