Deadly Chameleon Myth series

@javadi speaking of the natural craze in your post… I just have to say, there was a patient in critical condition where the wife was trying to stop half the medications and sneaking turmeric+avocado, among other supplements, through his PEG tube. Had to have a sitter watching her.

I also agree with the carrion feeding insects. This has to be a part of their diet. Not sure how we’d reasonably replicate that though.

But that’s the point, that he may be pushing more people away than he’s helping. I’m also skeptical of healthy chameleons being his priority. He’s too smart to not realize that his way of coming off is not conducive to spreading a message to everyone. I do believe he loves chameleons/animals, but he comes off as someone that wants the status more than anything.
I definitely understand why you feel that way about him, and if anyone actually interacts with him directly it can be very intimidating, and many would be immediately turned off and quickly exit the conversation.
I’m not sure if you know this, but I don’t do that 😂
I love the discussion, and his personality is partly what makes him breed discussion. Some are going to come in just to poop on his theories because they just don’t like him. Not necessarily discussion with him because then you are idiot, you are killing animals, and possibly starting major regional conflicts across the globe by your lack of fog. I get it
But it can engage (and already has here) some the greatest minds in this group. That’s not me. I’m the spoon guy

As far as his background motivations I don’t know what they are. I certainly don’t disagree that he commands attention when he’s around because of how he reacts to things, and maybe that is part of what makes him him

Not wrong! Some form of guidelines is better than nothing though don’t you think? From there we can discuss differences
Of course it is! I was a bit involved in the gutloading document that we have here. These are essential to helping new keepers find a solid footing to care for their Chams. Especially because, despite how easy some of you make it look, these are not particularly easy reptiles to care for and they are pretty sensitive to imbalance in their care
My only point is, this all sort of gets presented as fact, and as has been pointed out many times in this discussion, most of it isn’t but it works in general

It’s too easy to then sit back hand out fliers to people and hang out. It still takes people pushing the edges around to make it even better. I would be interested what the one year mortality of chameleons in captivity is today. I would guess it’s still pretty high

I know I’ve read about local breeders I think in Africa that feed their cattle near their large Cham enclosures so the cattle dung attracts bugs near to their breeding groups

I have a question for you guys? Would you like for me to tag Petr in this thread so he can weigh in? 😍
I think he would enjoy it. I’ve seen it happen in other threads like this (where people just throw his tag on to bring him in) It is exciting and he will add something to the discussion here for sure.

I like Petr. And enjoy having him in discussions. I’ve had some good ones with him

No doubt, but what do we think the one year mortality is for CF members? I’d bet pretty low, and honestly that’d probably go for anyone that actively seeks help, even on Reddit and whatever.

It would be interesting to have the respondents talk about their sources of care etc and try to see if you could find differences in the results. I am hopeful it is better here because you guys are awesome

I have yet to keep a chameleon alive for more than a few months and I can’t figure out why.
