Well, since I got my lil buddy Ringo on Sunday, im pretty sure all is going well
When I got him home I was very worried because I didnt want to make a mistake that would harm him. I thought I had got everything sorted, but once he was in his new home, it was clear I had some rearranging to do !
Thought he was a little to close to his basking light, so moved a couple of vines and a branch for the perfect positioning - well thats what I thought, he just moved to a different branch - lol
Was told he may not eat for like a day, and to leave him be for a few days until he was settled in. After about an hour I decided to drop a dusted cricket in for when he was ready, and what do you know..... he climb down and 'blam', dinner time
He had a couple more crickets and for the rest of the afternoon / evening he explored his new habitat. Then, he obviously had enough and found his 'sleepy' spot and said goodnight.
Next morning, I couldnt wait to make sure he was ok. Looked like breakfast was definately on his mind so he munched a few more crickets. On the last one he picked up some substrate *nooooooooo*. My heart sunk 'please spit it out', I said to myself.
He did spit something out. It was half the cricket. Unfortunately he swallowed the substrate. Now before getting him I had been reading this forum for quite some time. I knew substrate was frowned upon, but listening to a friend advices I still used it. Lesson 1 - dont use substrate, it really isnt worth it !
I was a little be concerned as I hadnt seen him poop, and being new to this had no idea what I should be looking for. The next day saw me scouring the enclosure for signs of poopy. But tbh, even after reading all the information, I still had no idea what I was looking for !
Ringo had positioned himself on a vine right in front of me, so I thought what a photo opportunity. I got the camera and just as I was about to click, I noticed he lifted one of his back legs. Sure enough, a small bulge appeared and then a beautiful nugget. I was so pleased and spoke out loud 'theres a clever boy Ringo' - this was followed by a bewildered look from my wife
Yesterday, he seemed a little different in the morning. Maybe even a bit grumpy ! I know I have only had him a couple of days, but already I can see a bit of character in him. Last night when I got home from work my family greeted me with 'Ringo's skin has come off dad'. His first shed, and I missed it
Still, this morning I grabbed a cricket and I saw an eye latch on to it straight away. Instead of dropping it in, I held on to it, which Ringo obviously had issues with
he climbed down and to my surprise, 'blam' no more cricket
Obviously I wont 'always' feed him like this, but I thought it must be a good sign that he is settling in and is fairly comfortable with me. Tomorrow I will handle him a little bit as I need to give his enclosure a quick once over (skin everywhere!).
Anyway, thats day 4 of my adventure. I'm just so pleased so far and wanted to share it with you guys. Thanks for reading.

PS when I find my camera lead I will be able to upload some pictures
