Dark Colours near basking light

As the title suggests, this is the only time he gets dark brown ish. Any where else he's normal colors. What does this mean?

They darken up to absorb heat. What are the temps at the basking spot and at the bottom of the cage?

Have you ever put on a white shirt and a black shirt in the sun? Which one is hotter? He turned dark so he can warm up faster. Once he's warm enough he'll lighten up and move away.

That's true. I just hope it's not any underlying issue
