I just mated my female and I am not sure if I should be giving her a boost in calcium with D3 or the calcium w/o D3. Also, do I dust the crickets everyday with the supplement?
I provide a little extra food and calcium in the few days after a female lays eggs. Increase water dripping too. I do not increase D3 or vitamin supplementation. I do gutload all insects well, I do have UVB lighting. I always calcium dust crickets, but other types of bugs do not necessarily need dusting (and I strive for variety in what I feed my chameleons, so crickets make up only about 25% of their diet).
The time to limit the food is not when they have already been mated and are producing eggs...its to slow the number of follicles ovulating down. By the time they have mated, its too late as a rule. You want the embryos/eggs to be healthy so once they are being produced the female needs enough food to put the nutrients into them that are needed.
