Cup feeding

My male verrucosus he's around 7 maybe 8 months now and he's had free raged food his whole life.
So there was a reptile show Saturday and I finally got the guts to get some dubias. I get home and I know that you can't free rage roaches. So I got my handy dandy zip ties and a tupperware container and tied it on the near corner with 2 dubias and one cricket. He noticed them moving around but didn't go near them plus he didn't eat that day.
Then I thought to myself I will trick him into going over to the cup, so I grabbed a cricket and stuck him on the screen. He immediately went over there zapped him looked at the cup and walk away.
So my question to everyone is how do I get him to cup feed roaches?
Thanks, Collin

It might take a little bit for him to eat one. I know that whatever they eat needs to be moving around pretty good. I could never get my cham to eat waxworms.

If your chameleon is not used to trying new things, it might not associate dubia with being food.

Turn the roach on its back (it wont stay that way forever). the extra wiggle Might attract enough attention.

Try free-range feeding one - when you are there to observe and when the cham is hungry. Just one, which you keep your eyes on, so that if the cham doesnt eat it, you can retreive it.

Is it an adult dubia? Mine were afraid of the big ones at first. Try a smaller one? Or a freshly-molted, white one.

My cham cup feeds and free ranges. When i got dubia he wouldn't touch them in the cup and he still wont to today. I need to put them on the cage in his view and let them climb around. Its a pain sometimes to keep them where they should be but its worth it for such an inexpensive feeder.

It took my chams a few days to try the dubias. I would mix them with a couple small crickets and a couple Phoenix worms. Now they eat them, no problem.

I had to install screen on the side of his cage, as the spaces are large enough for adult female dubia to escape. Basically just a 1X1 screen and place the dubia on that, they climb immediately and my guy tends to enjoy it. He will only hand feed/ "free range" 1-2 dubia a day unfortunately, crickets is what he loves.

Thanks everyone but before I got on here this morning my boy got distracted by a cricket by the cup then noticed all the food in the cup and chowed down on the dubias. By the way I'm feeding medium sized roaches.
Thanks for everyone's inputs

I never free range anything expect flies or a few grasshoppers from time to time. First when I tried to cup feed, he didn't touch it. So I started to hand-cup-feed him, just to show him "it's okay". When he ate from my "hand" I started to just put in the cup so it was could easy see the food, I tilted the cup a little so the crickets start to move around abit more. But I think it's of heavy weight that you keep free ranging some food. Some times I just buy a batch of flies cause I think it's good for them to keep their hunting instinct and ofc it's lovely to see when they're sneaking around and hunting :D
