Cup Feeding Not Working?

So I have tried for 3 days to get my cham to cup feed, with no luck. He seems them in the cup, but has not tried to eat them out of the cup.

The only way I got him to eat was to injure the crix by pulling off their back legs off and placing them on the leaf in front of him, he snatches them right up.

I would prefer to cup feed, because if I dont pull off the legs they jump to the bottom and hide in the rim of my planter. I am using a plastic cup, I cut down to 2.5" high, the crix dont jump out and he can see them so I am not sure why he wont try for them.

You may want to try other type feeders in the cup. Maybe a few wax worms will entice him to cup feed. I wouldn't worry too much, even if a few hide he'll track them down sooner or later.

how old is he. mine is almost 3 months and i was so upset i couldnt get him to cup feed. and then one day like 2 weeks after putting cup in there i saw him sitting on edge of cup eating a cricket. i think they have to accept the cup as part of their cage 1st. especially babies who tend to be a little more scared of everything. i always threw some fresh feeders in the cup and a few free range in the cage

I just got him, he is 2-3 months old currently. Do you take the cup out everyday, or do you leave the cup in there and just add crix?

I just used double sided tape and taped it to the side of my screen, down low so he could see from his spots.

i leave it in there. i think they need to just get used to it as another part of their cage. i bought a brown parrot feeder cup from the pet store in the bird section(i've seen them at petsmart) for $1.99. they have 2 little metal pokers to hang through a birds cage bars. but they poked straight through the screen perfectly just like i hoped. and the metal curves downward and stays in place. even has a little perch thing in front of the plastic cup. thats were i finally caught him sitting and eating. just keep trying.

Hi Veiled,

I have an easy cup feeding method on my blog (here at the cham forum) have a look, it might help. I have a few chams and all of them responded well to it on the first try.

Cheers.

Good to know, I am going to look for this today! I need more crix again today, I am buying 30 at a time to keep them alive.

I like that idea a lot... I had to cut tupperware just to get it to tie into place.. I think I as well will be looking for this!
