Cuddles the Waterdragon gone...

I certainly hope I have the same luck as Joe, but the darn rats ate a hole in Cuddles cage apparently last night-he was there this morning, but I did not see the hole and tonight he is long gone. I looked everywhere with a flashlight. Crud.

how big is he? don't give up on the search.. wait til morning time tomorrow... I don't know too much about waterdragons but if he is big enough and can't climb on treess... you have a chance!! dont give up....

I dont think so, not pleasant to find your dragon in one!
Good luck with it. Your lizard may also seek a warm place to hide. Check moisture/water sources also.

Geez.........I'm so sorry about Cuddles.....Don't give up! Is Cuddles an adult? They are pretty big. Easier to find when bigger like that. Was the rat after food in the cage? Will keep my fingers crossed for a happy outcome.

Just did another flashlight search, but of course Cuddles will not glow like a cham would. He is an adult-about 3 years old, but on the smaller side. Definitley 20 times the size the times of any Anole so I can see someone being a bit creeped out if they saw him. I have Pothos with leaves 18" wide climbing the house and an unbrella tree I am sure he could climb that is about 40 feet tall. Understand that my backyard is a jungle, great for him on the lose but hard for me to find anything in. He has way too much to hide in. I was hoping he might have gone to the pool, but no luck there. I will be combing the area in the morning, including my 60 foot long, 18 foot tall Viburnum hedge that lines the backyard.
Catherine, the rats must be after the insects in the cage. They broke into Oscars twice before (I started bringing him in) eating spare Dubia, but never touching the chams. They are fruit rats, but I don't think they would mind eating lizards. We are going to get traps in the morning.

I hope you can find him today. I've always liked Water Dragons. Don't know how I avoided getting one myself. I've had similar species. Sounds like your yard is a nightmare for searching. Hoping you find your baby today

I keep looking-hoping now that the sun is out I will find him out and basking. The pictures here will show what I am up against. I have a jungle backyard-excuse the mess and the pool-it has been raining non-stop here for 2 weeks.

His cage-if you look to the right of the waterdish you can see the hole. I fed him yesterday and he pooped in his water, then he must have found the hole.

Yikes...you are right. Lizard heaven. Can you contact the neighbors and let them know? Looks like you have other yards he could get to. That hedge probably has other things making a home in there

One more suggestion....

I had one more suggestion. He may freeze up and stand still if he sees you searching around for him. Take a break and sit somewhere that has the best vantage point of your yard. Just sit for as long as you can. If things are quiet you may catch any slight move he makes visually or you may see foliage move or hear something rustling around. You probably need a little chill time anyway!

maybe check around big puddles of water after all he is a water dragon.

You might tie a rope to something and throw the other end in your pool. Its very likely he will end up in there (if he hasnt left the yard) on a warm day and find it hard to get out again.
