Crickets vs ??

My panther, Maynard, has no problems eating crickets. I was just wondering about other options. This link here says no need to dust or gut-load. http://www.mulberryfarms.com/Phoenix-Worms/Cup-of-Medium-Phoenix-Worms-100-Count-p45.html

Are the chams able to sustain and thrive on these phoenix worms alone? I have dubias in a bin and most are too big and when I place appropriately sized ones in the enclosure they run and hide. I hand feed a couple of these a day.

Any thoughts? Just looking for something easier than crickets. Although, I do like to watch Maynard hunt...

Thanks!

I don't know- I've never tried.

But for certain your odds of a healthy chameleon are much higher if you vary your food item. Sure, phoenix worms are high in calcium and protein and have a great cal : phos ratio, but insects provide much more than that (vitamins, minerals, amino acids...) so the more variety the better.

As flux said, you should include variety in your chams diet. Phoenix worms CAN be used as a staple. They are VERY high in calcium. I use mostly phoenix worms and crickets. You could also include locusts, roaches, and silkworms into the staple.

Waxworms, mealworms, hornworms, and most of the other worms should remain a treat.
