Crickets big enough?

I've been feeding my 3 month olf panther cham 1/4 crickets for the past 3 weeks (got him 3 weeks ago) but I've seen him take down 3/8 crickets

I put about 15 of them in his cage and by the end of the day there is still about 5-8 climing on the sides of the cage so I take them out.

Should I be feeding him bigger crickets? If he was hungry he would just continue to hunt the small ones right? I can't really tell if he has grown since I got him.

the distance between his eyes could fit a 3/8 cricket

try mixing it up maybe. start introducing a few bigger ones and see how he likes it. my panther is not the least bit interested in small feeders of any kind, crickets or dubias. how old is ur cham? i'm not an expert but i would say its probably not a good idea to fill up your chams cage with 15 crickets at once and leave them there till night... i have seen posts about crickets attacking chams and even eating their eyes :( why not divide his feedings into morning and night, like 5-10 in the a.m., and then 5-10 in p.m. thats what i do anyway :)

I would recommend feeding as many as he will eat in a couple of minutes and only leaving one or two feeders for later. If they have food around all the time they can become tired of seeing food and some chams will go on a hungry strike. I would also recommend a large variety of feeders and not just crickets.

Hi, when I got my Panther he was 4 month old. Start to feed him 1/4 crickets he won't eat at all or just 5.. I start to give him the 1/3 he eats 20 a day sometimes!:)

My 3 month old Veiled eats large crickets with no problem.. maybe you're putting too many in his cage

thanks for the replys guys. He just started to shed today so I guess hes growing fine and eating enough he doesn't look skinny or anything, I'm going to get slightly larger crickets from the store and mix them in with the smaller ones

ok here is the rule of thumb with feeder size 1.the feeder should be no wider than the distance between the chameleons eyes. 2. the feeder should be no longer than half the lenght of the chameleons body (not including the tail).
when it comes to the amount its kinda guess and check. depending on what you feed your feeders will effect your chameleon crickets that have not bn gutloaded on a high nutrution gutload will not have the same benfit as a cricket that is properly gutloaded there for you will have to feed more of them to get the same nutritional effect. thier is no exact amount because every chameleon is diffrent. give your cham as much as he will eat. keep count of how many he eats. if he starts to look fat than reduce how many you take a bug or two off. and see if it helps. due to the fact he is a baby you will slowly have to up your numbers to keep up with him as he grows.:D

good luck,
robert
