This does pose an interesting problem; how to effectively free range feed your cham w/o wasting the feeders because they drown in a spoon of water, or they escaped, or they hid, and lost their gutload!!??
I just release the feeders right after fresh gut loading in the same spot in the cage so the chams can get their hunting routeen down.
Then put some food in the cage for feeders that hide and come out later at night.
It helps to let the cham see the container of food when putting it in the cage, and not give them too many at a time.
Trick is to not give the cricks enough time to hide
