my new panther from kammers will be arriving on tuesda morning. he is just over 3 months old and was told he is eating small crickets. when should i get crickets and start gutloading and how many should i get? wat size enclosure for the crickets? how many should i feed him at a time? any info is helpful. thanks.

the rule of thumb here is dont feed your cham anything thats bigger then the space between there eyes

and i think you should gut load your crickets24 hours before you feed your chameleon so that he gets all the stuff form the gut load as well

Get one of those large or small Cricket Keepers you can get at a pet store, or a big plastic tub. Get about 50 a few days before your guy arrives, and gut load with collard and mustard greens, kale, carrots, fruits, etc. Probably 15 every day since he is little. Post pics when he gets here! :D

...That doesn't really get him what he needs. They should be gut loaded 24 hours prior to feeding so they can absorb the nutrients and so he gets the full benefit of the cricket's nutrients and their food.

If he likes crickets then he will be eating about 20plus a day at 3 months old. I would get like 250 to start. You will have some die off. It takes them about 6 weeks to grow to their full size so you should have them fed off way before then. that should last you about 10 days. If he is a good eater then I would start ordering online and order 500 at a time. I would start with 1/4 inch size. I always just feed mine round the clock so they are just a healthier cricket in general. There is nothing wrong though with pulling out what you are going to feed and gutloading them extra good the night before.

I said 50 'cause I didn't know if he would order online. Do you have a pet store near you? Usually I just get 20 at a time, my store is 2 minutes from my house. But like Carol said, order in bulk if you're ordering online.

I think he meant that feeding them an hour before is not beneficial. I am not sure if that right or wrong so I will not comment.

lol i know hahaha i went back and fixed it but it didnt show up in there quote xD

Sorry I guess I put that a little weird... I meant that you gut load 24 hours before feeding. 1 hour after gut loading is not beneficial, it is not even really in the cricket's system by then.

I got ya. 50 will be gone in two days! I always order like 500 cause I don't want to keep running back and forth to the pet store.
