Cricket Food and Supplements

I see a lot of threads about dusting, and I'm sorry I'm asking more....

When we got our pygmy and carpet chams. the pet store we got them from had us use Repashy calcium plus and told me to use lightly every day.

Also use Fluker's High calcium cricket food. I had been using the Fluker's blue quencher, but recently picked up Zilla cricket drink that also has calcium and I think I'm going to stop using it (only got it because they were out of the other)

Now we have a Panther...

So, it sounds like from reading some other posts, I should use the Repashy Cal. + only 2 x month due to the D vitamins and use a calcium phos free every feeding? If the crickets are already getting a calcium diet, how much calcium on top of that do they really need?

Repashay cal + I use once a week for my panther. All other feeders are dusted lightly with plain calcium. The brands of calcium you use to feed your feeders are very poor. I don't use them but have learned that by reading many posts on here. Some use the Repashey daily but that is not necessary if you gutload your feeders well. Sandrachameleons had some excellent blogs on here. I am not sure if your carpet or pigmys requirements are the same so I would wait till someone more experience chimes in.:)

The pygmies need less supplementation than the pet store recommended. Use calcium (without D3 other vitamins or phosphorus) twice a week, and the Repashy Calicum Plus only once or twice a month.

Panthers use more supplement than montane species like your pygs. Since you are not yet gutloading well, you will want to use the Repashy Calcium Plus once or twice weekly for the panther. Once you improve your gutloading, you can reduce to 4 times a month. Yes, use a vitamin and phosphorous free calcium powder the rest of the time, as needed. crickets do need to be LIGHTLY dusted with calcium every time. But Hopefully you are offering a wide variety of prey, not just crickets?

Also, You'll be keeping the panther a lot warmer than the pygs.

He also gets mealworms as a treat a few times a week. We don't have a lot of other choices for prey unless I try flightless fruit flies or other worms.

So, what it looks like is that I need to get cricket food from the super market and not the pet store.....
