Hi all...as anyone who has seen my threads would know that i have had Trixxi for 3 months now...with it staying bright well until after 9 here in UK in the evenings could anyone tell me if it is ok to cover Trixi up when lights out at 8?.......as far as i know her previous owner never did this and the last thing i want to do is freak her out or give her a heart attack!i have a black sheet that i cold use..thanks for any help XXP.S....bite still hurts!!

I used to cover Lily's cage once she had settled. Her cage was in the lounge and we have a dim light on when it gets dark. She would settle to roost but not sleep unless it was very dark.

Thanks Tiff.........how have you been?i've been keeping an eye out for any of your posts...liked the one about me getting bite(HA HA)it hurt like hell!I'm guessing your Lily never had a go at u??Thanks for the tip on the covering up,Trixxi is in the living room and i leave the hall light on at night just to leave a little light into the room....it's just not dark enough when i first turn off everything,i hope i wont scare her!

Both my veiled's let me know when they want to sleep. They have certain spots in their enclosures and when they move there I cover them up with a dark cloth. My female is very alert and and wakes at the slightest movement. Whereas Santos will sleep through a tornado.

So Angie gets covered more often than the boy.

In my opinion it will do no harm, it can only make your cham more comfortable.:p

How many hours of light are you getting this time of year? having 14 hours of light isn't bad for them. They do have light changes in the wild just like we have at our homes. Shifting the light timers is a good idea.

Riht now I htink the sun is up around 6 and 8 by me right now... but I don't have my lights on until 8:30 and off at 8..... the room is bright enough that the chams are just waking up around 7:45ish.

I don't think you need to cover your cham unless the room is super bright as the sun sets.... but then in the morning that might mean it isn't so bright till an hour or so after the sun is up... so its give and take.

Yeah, we're getting roughly 14 hours at the moment summoner12 (I was up at 5 yesterday and it was bright!)

I cover my guy up about an hour after the lights go out as by then he's long asleep so it doesn't disturb him by doing it. I do it because if I want to go into his room (it's definitely his now) and I put the lights on I imagine he'd get woken up and I'd get a very grumpy cham! :p I take it down just before I go to bed, that way it isn't there in the morning to freak him out! It is pretty funny trying to navigate out of a darkened room though (that's what mobile phones are for!)

edit: his lights go out at 19:30

Thanks Slik Jim.....that's a really good idea!think i will try that out tonight.....liked the idea of staggering around trying to find your way out of the room LOL:D
