Countdown to Mellers!!!!!

Hey guys,

So its now about two weeks till I pick up my pair of mellers and i'm starting to get excited!! I am going to start construction of the free range area at the end of this week. So far I have all my electrics on order, have sourced a good supply of Schefflera, ficus and Pothos plants and just need to get the raw materials for my pair. I will post pics when completed but to give people an idea the 'space' for the free range will start off at around 3 feet deep, 3.5 feet wide and roughly 7 feet high. I had the idea that since the mellers are a juvenile pair the setup will grow with them and I have the option of extending the overall width to about 8.5 feet. I'm unsure as what watering system to use? Some people have said drippers and some have suggested hand misting. Neither is really a problem as I have all the bits and bobs to sort out a dripper or two and I work from home so regular mistings will not be a problem. Anyone think of anything else I need to consider?? :D

If you are going to do a free range you wont' be able to hand mist unless you buy a pump hand mister... but trust me you'll get tired of it. I would buy a Mist King system and get at least two or three nozzle to start. Get a few extra elbows and T's. I have a thread about my free range and you can get some ideas through my photos. I would def. go with a misting system and work out a drainage.

Hey, yes I use a pump hand mister anyway, I have already worked out a drainage plan and have been looking into the misting systems but not that many are available where I come from. I was going to look into building one but would probably need longer than a couple of weeks for that!!

Yeah let me know if you have any questions... I also have a thread about my drainage.... If you go to my profile and then click on 'Statistics' you can click on all the threads I have created.

try to find a ficus alii, they are great for mellers because of their size and ae strong enough for a mellers

they are also hardier than benjimina and dont lose leafs everyytime lighting changes
