Could she be digging and not have eggs?

Hi guys,
My girl is receptive, but she doesn't show any signs of being gravid. Two or three days ago I saw a short tunnel in her laying bin, but nothing happened since then. Is she indeed gravid? Should I be worried?

I've heard it takes about 72 hours for a cham to dig, lay her eggs, and recover the hole. But, they can have many holes dug up. I guess they're picky when it comes to which hole they want :)

In this stage try to not bother them at all, let them do their thing untill you think she laid her clutch. It does sound like she's gravid if she's digging up holes. Have you felt around her stomach to check for eggs?

I've never bred a female cham, so my experience is 0. But i've been reading up on females allot and been watching videos.

Here's a thread w/ video that helped me with the info I gave you:

Hopes this helps!

you cant always tell the difference between gravid and receptive.
so if shes digging, she most likely has eggs.

it took my female almsot 3 full days to lay eggs.

Thank you for your replays. Yes, I'm constantly checking her belly (I'm a bit paranoid - she is my first female), but I don't feel anything. I thought I saw a little egg-like bump right next to her back leg today, but I'm not really sure...

I'm trying not to bother her, I do check the room (I enter it very slowly, so if I notice her digging I would be able to turn around and she wouldn't notice me), because I have another cham there. Each time I check, she is at the top, never near her laying bin.

I also track her weight, and she didn't gain much. 10 g few weeks back, but I believe that's due to her growing (she is 10 months old). She is eating less these days (started 2-3 weeks ago), and lost 3 grams.

Again i'm no expert, but it does sound like she is about to lay...

Check Jann's blog about egg laying that she linked you, that should give you tons of great info :)

Oh, did I mention Jann gives your TONS of GREAT info? haha

Lol, thanks for yor replays. yes, I know all about Jann's blog :) I have some pics I'll post tomorrow (I'm on my phone and it' night time over here ).

Hi again,
She haven't layed any eggs yet. I covered her cage today, so I hope she will do it today.

I have checked on her and she's still at the top. I'm thinking about getting xray to make sure she has eggs. Is it possible that she doesn't?

Most females wont dig if they dont have a reason to, unless of course she is eating the sand.

she may just be testing the sand, or she may not like it.

try getting a bucket and filling it with dirt. I used top soil and my girl dug and laid.

you may also need to get a big trash can, and fill it with dirt, then put her and a stick in it, and not let her out till she lays. some females are like that too. they have to be forced.

though an xray will certainly say if there are eggs or not.

I'm actually using dirt, not sand. I was thinking about using a big trash can and leaving her there...

then try sand instead of dirt. ;)

and it wont hurt her if you try the trash can idea.
several members have females that wont lay eggs any other way.

damn, I'm so worried. I checked the bucket cause I thought maybe she have already layed, but nothing. I'm going to vet's now. I will let you know! Thanks :)

I understand the feeling. I think sometimes we get so worried and get it in our mind that they need to lay eggs and worry ourself sick even when it's possible they don't have eggs or not ready to lay yet.

That's exactly how I feel :)

So I'm back from the vet. Unfortunately they had some problem with their x-ray machine, and the x-ray doesn't have the best contrast.
I'm attaching the pic below, I think there are eggs, but would like you guys to confirm :)

The vet should have answered for you, but it looks like there are eggs to me :D.
